Woman loses 85 lbs by Becoming a Vegetarian

As a Vegetarian I love to hear success stories of how people not only lost weight, but chose a healthier lifestyle by cutting meats out of their diets.  Sandra, is not a vegetarian, she’s  a pescatarian, but she did cut most meats out of her life and looks great as a result. For those who don’t know, Pescatarians are people who eat seafood as their meat source, but eat mostly fruits and vegetables around that.   A Vegetarian considers anything with eyes meat, so we don’t eat fish either.  I’m happy that Sandra clarified this in her own story because it always wears me out when folks are like “i’m a vegetarian” as they eat turkey.  I’m like since when is turkey a veggie ?!

In the article Sandra says that you need to take a multivitamin and eat tofu to get the protein you are missing by not eating meat. That is NOT true.  You should be taking a multivitamin whether you eat meat or not because the food supply is so tainted these days that you need to replenish what a lot of companies like Monsanto have stripped from the food in general.  As far as Tofu goes, it’s fine in small doses, but studies have shown that too much tofu (soy) can lead to forms of breast cancer.  To make sure you get your protein eat the right amounts of greens and beans in place of meat when you go vegetarian.

Sandra Nunez-Simms Lost 85 lbs By Becoming a Vegetarian

Today, we’re doing our very first veggie diaries with Sandra Nunez-Simms, one of our Thank God I’m Natural Facebook fans who lost 85 pounds when she switched to a plant based diet.  The goal of our veggie diaries are to highlight people who have become vegetarians, vegans, or opted to just go meatless every once in a while.  There have been several studies that have shown that a diet high in animal protein is causally linked to cancer and other ailments like heart disease and diabetes. It’s time to start taking better care of our ourselves, and the first step in that process is learning as much as we can about our how diet affects our bodies. Please don’t be overwhelmed, because we’re here to help.  Let’s take this journey to healthy living together. 

1.  Why did you give up meat?
Deciding to give up meat has been one of the easiest choices of my life.  Becoming a vegetarian has changed me.  I decided to give up meat because I was never a big meat eater.  My meat of choice has always been either chicken or turkey or occasionally beef .  After doing a lifestyle change on my eating habits, I realized that my diet seriously lacked vegetables.  I ate them occassionally but surely not with every meal.  Giving up meat was a way for me to incorporate more vegetables and live a healthier-greenier life.  Also, the idea of putting a face to my food kinda weirded me out.

2.  How long have you been a vegetarian, vegan, raw foodist, flexetairan?

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost three years.  I also define myself as a pescatarian as I do eat some seafood.
